How to make a paper heart from Joan Chittister Calendar

The hearts demonstrated here are a project from the women in the California Institute for Women, using one of the free spiritual publications that your donation to the Joan Chittister Fund for Prisoners makes possible. At the end of the calendar year, the women take the Joan Chittister Calendars that hang on their cell walls and “recycle” them, cutting the colorful pages into strips, writing a message of encouragement on them and folding them into hearts which they then distribute to anyone in need of a word of hope, love, encouragement, and friendship.

More than two million U.S. adults are currently in prison. That’s nearly 1% of the entire U.S. population—almost one in every 100 of us—who will spend time behind bars. Thanks to your efforts, the Joan Chittister Fund for Prisoners is the only help toward a meaningful life that many of these women and men ever receive.
